- He propagates the principles of Nationalism, Self Respect, Women’s Rights and the Eradication of Caste system.
- • He also opposed the exploitation and marginalization of non – Brahmin indigenous Tamil people.
- The Citation Award by the UNESCO described PERIYAR as
“The Prophet of the New Age,”
“The Socrates of South East Asia,”
“Father of Social Reform Movement” and
“Arch Enemy of Ignorance, Superstitions, Meaningless customs and base manners.”!!! - He said that all caste has the right to enter the temples and to worship with all their rights. There is NO level of variance in caste to worship in temples.
- He strongly encouraged widows to remarry.
- He strongly opposed child marriages in India.
- He also encouraged low caste women to wear saris with sari blouses to cover their body and gave them the freedom to do so.
